Redefining Success: Embracing Divergent Paths Away from Social Norms
In today's whirlwind of societal expectations, it's easy to feel like we're just going through the motions, adhering to a blueprint of life that doesn't quite fit. This is your daily reminder: it's perfectly okay to step off the well-trodden path and carve your own. It's more than okay to be a divergent thinker, whose life and goals do not align with traditional societal expectations.
The Great Disconnect: Student Loans, Mortgages, and Unrealized Promises
Let's get real. Many of us were sold a promise: go to college, and it will pave the way to a beautiful future. Now, saddled with student loans and mortgages, with kids to raise and bills to pay, many find that their jobs don't deliver on that promised financial or personal fulfillment. We love our lives, yet we can't help feeling a bit deceived. Despite this, I've witnessed an inspiring trend: people rising to say, "I'll work, and I'll start a business." We juggle full-time jobs, parenting, side hustles, and community duties, often feeling the weight of the societal myths we were taught. We are still finding ways to TRAVEL THE WORLD .... DO THINGS WE LOVE.... We just have to go about it a little differently!!!!
A Journey Back to Basics: Rediscovering Off-Grid and Permaculture Living
This overwhelming lifestyle led me to reconsider alternative living options, drawing inspiration from my childhood experiences on my grandmother's small farm. I revisited off-grid living and permaculture, concepts I was familiar with but hadn't fully appreciated until I faced the modern rat race. If I could achieve a level of self-reliance for my family, perhaps I could escape the cycle of overwork and overcommitment.
And while we love being off grid we also found a beautiful balance of TECH and NATURE!!! We are not out here to eliminate tech or to not use the advancements in the world. We just hope to be part of creating a way to live that makes those beautiful advancements and luxuries available to more people. HARMONY is our quest and creating beautiful music along the way!
Simplifying to Amplify: Choosing an Off-Grid Life
I'm not even fond of cleaning, so downsizing our home was a no-brainer. As someone who thrives outdoors and cherishes simple luxuries, I quickly realized that the conventional way of life was not for me. Choosing to go off-grid was straightforward because I yearned for a slower, more meaningful life. I understood the challenges it would bring, yet the decision was easy. Why? Because the life I was leaving behind was not easy either.
I was tired of settling for a home I didn't love, tired of an environment that deteriorated my mental health, and exhausted by the endless bills that seemed to offer little in return. I was working so many hours that my time with my children was limited to homeschooling sessions. Enough was enough......I decided it was time to reclaim my life and find a different way.
Downsizing also brought a really cool idea forward for my family!!! We are thinking about traveling around the world together. We want to visit other off grid places and experience the world together! Because we downsized we all have the things we LOVE with us in very few bags! This means that moving over seas for a stint or for a long while is completely doable for us!! Needless to say updated passports are on the way!!!!
The Choice to Live Authentically
Going off-grid and embracing permaculture isn't just about being sustainable with nature; it's about being sustainable with oneself. It's about creating a life where your environment, your work, and your relationships nurture your well-being rather than diminish it. This choice might not be the easiest, but it is a testament to the strength and resilience in choosing to live authentically.
For anyone feeling trapped by societal norms or disillusioned by the promises of conventional success, remember this: there is immense power and freedom in choosing a path that aligns with your values and desires. Sometimes, the best way to find fulfillment is to diverge from the expected and embrace a life that truly feels like your own.
You can try any lifestyle you wish.... off grid has taught us SOOO much about ourselves and even if we don't stay on this particular mountain forever, I think off grid life and the cheap cost of living is an absolute must for us no matter where we decide to be!!!!
If you are considering off-grid living just know that the journey teaches us things about ourselves and some of them are unexpected!!!! We didn't know half of what this adventure would really teach us or how it would shift our desires until we were actually doing it!!! GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO TRY THINGS!!!!
